The Mandalorian: Everything you need to know about the second season

If you are in love with Baby yoda, here is good news: there will be more of the little green alien. The bad news, however, is that Disney does not yet confirm the second season of The Mandalorian for your service streaming. How is such a contradiction possible? Next we will explain it to you.

In July 2019, on the occasion of the premiere of The lion kingJon Favreu said on Jimmy Kimmel's show that he was "having fun" writing the scripts for the second season of The Mandalorian. "It's like opening your doll chest and playing with all the Star Wars toys together. We're having a great time," he said.

Subsequently, Favreu has dedicated himself to sending greetings from the set itself, uploading images to his Instagram account, labeled "#TheMandalorian season 2". Although without advancing anything in the plot – after all, season 1 has not yet been broadcast.

If the words of the director of The Mandalorian they don't convince you, there is another testimony that indicates that not only the second season is written, but that it is already being recorded.

In an interview with The wrapRian Johnson, director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, He confessed that he had visited the series set and was surprised to see Baby yoda, the little alien who has become a viral fever on social networks. "The producer gave me a penetrating look as he said 'You can't say a word about this.' I will be keeping that secret in my heart forever. The memes are amazing. I'm very pro-Baby Yoda," Johnson said.

The illustrious visitor said he was in the forum a month before the premiere of The Mandalorian and this is where the interesting thing comes from. If we believe Johnson's words, production times say he was really on the set of the second season, because a month before the premiere the recordings of the first had already ended.

What is the second season about?

If by chance you have lived in a cave in recent years and you don't know what this is about spin-off from Star wars, we tell you the premise: The Mandalorian occurs five years after the fall of the Empire – five years after Episode VI, Return of the Jedi– and before the emergence of the First Order. We will then follow the tribulations of a lone gunman in the confines of the galaxy before the times of authority of the New Republic.

The first season consists of 10 chapters and the first revealed the great surprise of the year: the existence of Baby Yoda. Although it must be said that in the series he is known only as "The child" and there is no relationship with the Jedi master directly, however the public already knows him as Baby Yoda. At least, what we know is that there is this race of beings with great power and the story arc, thanks to the fact that it is barely 50 years old (remember that Yoda lived like 900), it gives a great development.

In fact, if Rian Johnson was not wrong in his statement, that the tender alien is in the second season tells us that the character is as transcendental as the protagonist himself.

Likewise, we cannot forget that according to Pablo Hidalgo, creative and executive of Lucasfilm, there is a database with 17,000 characters of the saga, the planets on which they appear and 20,000 years of history of that whole universe, which they call the Holocron . With this file, it is impossible for missing stories to continue with the successful series.

Who would lead the second season?

The page specialized in entertainment, Screen rant, not only assured that there will be a second season but also put the name of the first director chosen: Carl Weathers. This man gives life to Greef Karga in the series itself. According to the page, Favreu could book another chapter, the same as screenwriter Dave Filoni.

Weathers, known for being Arnold Schwarzenegger's partner in Pradator or for his character Apollo Creed in Rocky, recently directed an episode of Hawaii Five-0.

Release date, trailer and images

For now there is no release date of the second season, but it is expected, according to production times, to be released for the last half of 2020 and thus take advantage of the pull of the marketing that Star Wars has to generate money on toys, something that apparently it was not very well tuned with Baby Yoda, a toy that everyone wants but is not yet available.

When the first images and trailers appear, we will update this note. Meanwhile, we leave you the first season trailer.
