Houseplanting also enhances your well-being

Heating air, little sun and fluctuating temperatures, we are all tired from the winter. Also our houseplants suffer in these conditions. Find out how you can care for your houseplants and at the same time improve your living climate here.

Cultivating indoor plants means to ground

Indoor plants not only look decorative – they also improve the indoor climate. Because they filter pollutants from the air, provide humidity and produce oxygen. Some even at night.

In addition, when we take care of our plants, it is easier for us to feel our belonging to nature, to "ground ourselves". In an increasingly virtual world, characterized by electronic data exchange and flickering images, this is becoming increasingly important.

Houseplants: From January they want to get started

Just as we wait for spring, so are our plants in the starting blocks. From now on, you can fertilize again, water more and above all: repot.

Which house plants need repotting when?

If the roots grow out of the planter below, it is high time. Otherwise, you should repot every two to three years. When the earth has lost its luster, lime edges increase, the earth looks "old", it is also high time.
How to repot right you will learn in the next part of the series.

Special fertilizer or universal fertilizer?

That's a matter of taste. Many plant lovers feel safer with the name of their plant on the pack: Palm fertilizer for palm trees, Green plant fertilizer for green plants, Citrus plant fertilizer for citrus plants.

Specialist fertilizers are only needed in gardening for a few species such as orchids, bonsai plants, cacti, all kinds such as azaleas and hydrangeas that require acid soil. Also useful are extra fertilizers for green plants, flowering plants, or citrus fruits. Make sure the fertilizer on quality products. Fertilizer is food for the plants. The cleaner it is, the more the fertilizer helps.

Maintain houseplants: From proper watering

From above or from below? Pouring in the plant bowl at the bottom is only sensible in very few species. It is better to pour the soil from above so that your plants do not constantly have "wet feet". They do not like that. In addition, let it dry in between.

Try it. Your plants tolerate a lot, it is important that you look and observe, for example, whether the ficus leaves the leaves hanging, they have lost their luster or if it is upright and healthy there.

Maintain houseplants: Special tip for February

Dust the leaves and shoots of your plants with a damp cloth. And spray the plants regularly with water. They breathe better, form the oxygen that is so important for the indoor climate and make you happier with their rich growth!
