The more time passes and the more Dolby Atmos, which improves the immersion with a sound «3D», becomes affordable. Sony has announced two new sound bars at CES 2019, the HT-X8500 and HT-S350. If the latter only simulates surround sound with the company's S-Force PRO Front Surround technology, the X8500 is fully Dolby Atmos and DTS-X compatible, for a relatively low price of € 450. The S350 will be sold for € 300.
Although it is a 2.1 channel physical soundbar, the X8500 will be able to simulate a 7.1.2 sound depending on the brand. Unlike most Dolby Atmos sound bars, it does not have a vertical speaker to project sound to the ceiling. Instead, there is the Sony Vertical Surround Engine technology built into the very good HT-ZF9, released last year. The X8500 also has two built-in subwoofers, a new generation and futureproof HDMI eARC port (standard 2.1) and Bluetooth connectivity.

For its part, the S350, more modest, still displays 350 W of power and comes with a wireless subwoofer. Like her big sister, she has Bluetooth and has an HDMI port, but "Only" ARC this time. Both products adopt a perforated metal design. Note in passing that Sony has also announced a new 4K Blu-ray player, the UBP-X800M2, compatible HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG, and embedding a 4K upscaling algorithm for lower quality sources.
